Jalen Ramsey Reportedly Prefers Trade to West Coast, Rams, Chargers Linked amid Rumors

Julia StumbaughJun 20, 2025

ESPN's Adam Schefter believes that Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey is hoping his team's ongoing trade negotiations will eventually send him back to California.

"I think he would like to go to the West Coast, to Los Angeles. Rams, Chargers, somewhere like that," Schefter said Friday on the Pat McAfee Show.

The Dolphins have been seeking a trade for Ramsey since at least April, but have not yet finalized a deal.

Schefter added that he expects to see Ramsey traded before Dolphins training camp begins in July.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler similarly said earlier this month that the Rams were on Ramsey's "radar as a potential option."

Ramsey played parts of four seasons with the Rams, where he earned three straight Pro Bowl nods prior to his 2023 trade to the Dolphins.

The Rams are currently set to enter training camp with Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon leading the cornerback depth chart.

Head coach Sean McVay indicated when speaking to reporters during last week's mandatory minicamp that there may be obstacles preventing the Rams from adding depth at the position by acquiring Ramsey.

"Usually, those are scenarios and situations that you have to have plans in place prior to executing some of the decisions that have occurred," McVay said, per Stu Jackson of the team's website.

McVay continued, "Definitely don't want to rule anything out because we're always open-minded to onboarding and acquiring quality players and people like him if we're able to do that, but there would be some obstacles that are real that are in the place of maybe preventing that from occurring."

One of those obstacles could be the guaranteed money remaining on Ramsey's contract. The Rams currently have $22.5 million in projected cap space for the 2025 season, per Spotrac.

Ramsey is meanwhile set to receive $21.1 million with $20 million guaranteed next season, according to Spotrac. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported in May that the Dolphins "have not been overly eager" to take on any of that salary in order to facilitate a trade.

The Chargers have slightly more room to maneuver under the cap, with just under $28 million in space projected for next season by Spotrac.

But Jim Harbaugh could see cornerback as less of a need with Donte Jackson and second-year backs Tarheeb Still and Cam Hart poised to lead the depth chart.

If the Dolphins want to end the ongoing stalemate with Ramsey ahead of training camp, general manager Chris Grier could potentially consider eating some of the cornerback's contract in order to make him a more attractive trade candidate for teams like the Rams.
