Red Sox Insider Says 'Turncoats' Are Plotting Against Craig Breslow After Devers Trade
There is reportedly a belief among some in the Boston Red Sox organization that dissent is mounting against chief baseball officer Craig Breslow.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, one person who is loyal to Breslow said, "There are definitely turncoats internally plotting against Bres."
Passan noted that 50 people were fired by the Red Sox across multiple departments last year, leaving the professional scouting department in shambles. As a result, sources say Breslow now has a "small" circle of trust and relies heavily on analytics, which has left some in the organization "embittered."

Breslow shocked the baseball world Sunday when he agreed to trade three-time All-Star slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants for pitchers Kyle Harrison and Jordan Hicks, and prospects James Tibbs III and Jose Bello.
Devers, 28, had spent his entire nine-year MLB career in Boston, slashing .279/.349/.510 with 215 home runs and 696 RBI across 1,053 regular-season games.
In addition to his three All-Star nods, Devers won two Silver Slugger Awards and the 2018 World Series.
Until this season, Devers was almost exclusively a third baseman, appearing in 951 games at the position. However, when the Red Sox signed Gold Glove third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency, they did so with the idea of making Devers the designated hitter.
Devers was resistant at first before changing his mind. Things got awkward, though, as Devers refused to play third base or first base this season after injuries to Bregman and Triston Casas.
Breslow ultimately decided to trade Devers to San Francisco to avoid further clashes, and Devers has since expressed a willingness to play the field for the Giants if need be.
The dissolution of the relationship between Devers and the Red Sox is the latest in a long line of shortcomings for the organization in recent years.
Boston entered the 2025 season having missed the playoffs in three straight years, marking the first time that happened since 2010 to 2012.
While the Red Sox did sweep the rival New York Yankees this week, they are still fourth in the American League East with a somewhat pedestrian 39-37 record.
After previously serving as the Chicago Cubs' assistant general manager, Breslow joined the Red Sox as their chief baseball officer in October 2023. He succeeded Chaim Bloom, who had headed Boston's baseball operations since October 2019.
The change has not yielded much better results thus far, and if rumors of tumult in the front office are true, it is fair wonder if Breslow may be on a short leash.
