Rafael Devers Makes Giants Debut vs. Guardians, Gets Standing Ovation After Trade
San Francisco Giants fans didn't waste much time welcoming Rafael Devers to his new home.
San Francisco acquired the slugger from the Boston Red Sox via a shocking trade that saw pitchers Jordan Hicks and Harrison, outfield prospect James Tibbs III, and relief pitcher Jose Bello go to the American League East team.
Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians marked Devers' debut with his new club, and the fans at Oracle Park welcomed him with a standing ovation:

It also didn't take long for the three-time All-Star to give those fans something to cheer for either, as he laced an RBI double in the bottom of the third to put the Giants ahead 2-1:
The National League West team will surely be looking for plenty more moments like that considering Devers is in just the second season of a 10-year, $313.5 million deal. It seemed like he would be a franchise cornerstone for Boston for years to come, but the relationship between player and team appeared to deteriorate this season.
First, he resisted moving from third base after Boston added Alex Bregman. Then, he declined to change positions for a second time after first baseman Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury.
Given that backdrop, it certainly turned some heads when he told reporters Tuesday, "I'm here to play wherever they want me to play" when speaking about the Giants.
They slotted him in at designated hitter and the third spot in the lineup for his first game on the club, and his debut drew some reaction:
Ultimately, whether Devers can help the Giants make a move in the NL West and perhaps a deep playoff run will determine how successful this trade is since they are still chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division.
But they look far more dangerous with him in the lineup than they did just days ago.
