Rafael Devers Says He'll Play Any Position for Giants After Blockbuster Red Sox Trade
Rafael Devers told reporters Tuesday he'll play any position for the San Francisco Giants after the team acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox (h/t Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle).
Manager Bob Melvin offered more information to reporters on Devers, who will make his Giants debut on Tuesday evening at home against the Cleveland Guardians at designated hitter.

The 28-year-old Devers is a three-time All-Star who was hitting .272 (.905 OPS) with 15 home runs and 58 RBI in his ninth MLB season (all with the Red Sox) before the big trade.
Devers' natural position is third base, but that'll be occupied by Matt Chapman when he gets off the 10-day injured list due to right hand inflammation. San Francisco placed him there on June 9. Chapman provided an update on June 13, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Devers' position, of course, was a point of contention in Boston when the team added Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman via free agency last offseason.
Devers wasn't a fan of moving off third base, saying he would not leave the hot corner. He did and became the team's DH. However, the Red Sox then wanted him to move to first base after Triston Casas suffered a ruptured left patellar tendon. Devers refused the move to first.
It appears he'll be playing first and DH in San Francisco, though, as Devers enjoys a fresh start following a massive trade.
Devers joins a Giants team that's currently second in the NL West by 2.5 games to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
