NFL Exec Calls Jalen Milroe Interesting for Seahawks If He 'Figures Out How to Be a QB
The Seattle Seahawks are handing the reins to quarterback Sam Darnold after trading Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, but it's their rookie signal-caller who's drawing some intrigue around the league.
The Seahawks used the third-round pick acquired in the Smith trade to select Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. One NFL executive told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that while the youngster needs some time to develop, he can become a strong contributor for Seattle.
"Darnold and Geno to me are very similar, solidified starters but not in the top end," an NFL personnel director said. "Geno has more of a track record as a passer, but Darnold threw 35 touchdowns last year, so if he can play close to how he did last year, that's a great situation and opportunity for him. And Milroe has a different skill set. If he develops and figures out how to be a quarterback, he will become a really interesting player for them."

Milroe's dual-threat traits made him an attractive prospect for teams that could give him time to sit and learn behind a veteran. In his senior season at Alabama, he threw for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while adding 726 rushing yards and 20 more scores.
While Milroe's athleticism could get him on the field for a special package of plays during his rookie year, he will need to prove he can be a reliable passer if he wants to succeed Darnold as Seattle's starter.
