The PGA Tour is hiring the NFL's executive vice president, Brian Rolapp, to become its new CEO, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

NASCAR commissioner Steve Phelps, TaylorMade Golf CEOย David Abelesย and former Ticketmaster chairmanย and current Alterra Mountain CEO Jared Smith were also reportedly in the running to take over as the PGA Tour's new CEO, per Josh Carpenterย andย Ben Fischer of the Sports Business Journal.
The PGA Tour has been seeking a new CEO since early 2024. In a December memo, PGA Tour commissionerย Jay Monahan indicated that the golfing entity was seeking an outside hire for CEO, per Carpenter and Fischer, and would "continue to look outside the organization to bring in fresh perspectives and complementary capabilities that will make our team even stronger."
The hiring comes at a time when the PGA Tour remains in merger negotiations with LIV golf and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund that backs it.
As for Rolapp and his bonafides, he "spearheaded the [NFL's] media strategy, with its current agreements worth more than $120 billion over 11 years," per Scott Soshnick and Kurt Badenhausenย of Sportico.
