Chris Godwin Will Wear 'Godwin Jr.' on Bucs Jersey to Honor Late Father
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin announced Thursday that he will wear the name "Godwin Jr." on the back of his jersey during the 2025 NFL season.
In Godwin's statement on the change, which was posted by the Bucs on X, the veteran wideout divulged that he would be going by Godwin Jr. in honor of his father, who died in January 2024:

Godwin, 29, has been one of the NFL's best and most consistent wide receivers throughout his eight-year career, which has been spent entirely in Tampa.
The 2017 third-round draft pick out of Penn State has reached the 1,000-yard receiving mark in his career four times, including 2019 when he caught 86 passes for a career-high 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns en route to his first and only Pro Bowl nod and All-Pro second-team selection.
One year later, Godwin played a pivotal role in the Bucs winning the Super Bowl, as he teamed with legendary quarterback Tom Brady to reel in 16 passes for 232 yards and a score during the team's playoff run.
Godwin finished with over 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons from 2021 to 2023, and he was well on his way to making it four in a row last season.
Through seven games, Godwin had racked up 50 grabs for 576 yards and five touchdowns, but he dislocated his ankle in Week 7 and missed the remainder of the campaign.
There was some thought that Godwin would sign elsewhere in free agency this offseason, but he ended up inking a three-year, $66 million deal to remain in Tampa Bay.
In 2025, Godwin and the Buccaneers will look to win their fifth consecutive NFC South title and make their sixth straight playoff appearance.
