Tigers' Jackson Jobe to Get Tommy John Surgery on Injury, No. 5 Prospect Entering 2025
The Detroit Tigers announced that right-handed starting pitcher Jackson Jobe will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the 2025 regular season.
Jobe was listed No. 5 overall on MLB Pipeline’s ranking of the top 100 prospects entering this season.

Jobe was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft out of Heritage Hall School in Oklahoma City. He dominated the minor leagues from 2022 to 2024 before Detroit called him up on September 25 of last season.
Jobe made four relief appearances over the regular season and playoffs before entering the starting rotation in 2025. He went 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA (1.49 WHIP) over 10 starts, striking out 39 batters over 49.0 innings. Jobe had been faring well over his last four starts, posting a 3.38 ERA while striking out 19 over 21.1 innings.
The Tigers placed Jobe on the 15-day injured list on May 29, one day after his last start against the San Francisco Giants. Per MLB.com, Jobe reported discomfort in his right elbow after that home appearance, during which he threw 95 pitches over 4.2 innings in a no-decision en route to a 4-3 Detroit win.
"Tests indicated a Grade 1 (mild) strain of his flexor tendon, but further evaluation with doctors resulted in the decision to undergo surgery," MLB.com noted.
This is obviously a brutal loss for the Tigers, whose 44-24 record leads all of baseball. And it's also a very tough setback for Jobe, a tremendous talent who still has a bright future ahead of him. Hopefully Jobe can make a full recovery ASAP and get back to the mound sometime in 2026.
