T-Wolves' Chris Finch Reportedly on Knicks' Radar amid Jason Kidd HC Rumors
The New York Knicks could look to poach their next head coach from a Western Conference contender.
Ian Begley of SNY reported Friday that Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch is among the coaching candidates that the New York Knicks "have degrees of interest in." Other currently employed coaches the Knicks have been linked to are the Houston Rockets' Ime Udoka and Dallas Mavericks' Jason Kidd.
Finch has been the Timberwolves' coach since 2020-21 and has led the team to a 209-160 overall record during his time at the helm. Minnesota has qualified for the postseason in four of his five seasons and reached the Western Conference Finals each of the last two years.
He signed a contract extension with the Timberwolves last offseason and is under contract through the 2027-28 season. If the Knicks were to hire Finch, they would need to work out some form of compensation with Minnesota.
The Knicks reached the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1999-00 but fell to the Indiana Pacers in six games. Tom Thibodeau was subsequently fired on Tuesday.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Knicks are seeking an interview with Kidd, though it's unclear if the Mavericks will grant the 52-year-old permission to speak with Leon Rose and Co.
Stein added that any Knicks request to speak with Udoka is likely to be "swiftly rebuffed."
