Francisco Lindor Says He's Day-to-Day with Broken Toe After Injury in Mets vs. Dodgers

Timothy RappJun 5, 2025

New York Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor told reporters on Thursday that he broke his right pinky toe after getting hit by a Tony Gonsolin slider during Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"I'm day-by-day," he told reporters. "Hopefully it will feel good enough to play sooner rather than later and we'll see. We'll take it day by day. I trust the trainers, how they go about it, and it will be an education decision to play or not."

Lindor finished Wednesday's game and told reporters that the injury should mainly be a pain-tolerance situation.

"It hurts," he acknowledged. "And even more so when you are wearing shoes."

Luisangel Acuna replaced him in the starting lineup for Thursday's matchup with the Dodgers.

All things considered, it's good news for the Mets, as Lindor should avoid the injured list. The 31-year-old and last year's NL MVP runner-up is hitting .279 with 14 homers, 36 RBI, 42 runs, 11 stolen bases and a .843 OPS, and looks well on the way to earning his fifth All-Star Game nod.

He doesn't believe the injury should limit him to only serving as a designated hitter while it heals.

"The way I see it is if I am good enough to hit and run and I should be good enough to play shortstop," he told reporters. "But at the end of the day I trust the trainers and whenever they think it's going to be best I will go with that."

Manager Carlos Mendoza suggested that Lindor was not thrilled about sitting out Thursday's contest.

"This is going to be a conversation after every day," he said while discussing Lindor's status going forward. "Even last night, going back to the hotel on the bus, he was fighting. He wanted to be in the lineup. I was like, 'You're not going to be in the lineup tomorrow.' He's like, 'Give me until tomorrow morning.' I was like, 'OK, I'm going to give you until tomorrow morning, but the answer's going to be the same.'"
