Boisson Beats Andreeva, Updated French Open Women's Bracket at Roland-Garros

Scott PolacekJun 4, 2025

The slipper still fits for the Roland-Garros Cinderella.

Lois Boisson entered her home country's Grand Slam as the 361st-ranked player and a wild card entry but is now heading to the semifinals after Wednesday's 7-6(6), 6-3 victory over No. 6 Mirra Andreeva. Boisson will now face second-seeded Coco Gauff in the semifinals as she searches for the first Grand Slam title of her career.

Wednesday was the first career match between Andreeva and Boisson, and the latter made it clear from the start she wasn't going to fold under the spotlight.

She broke Andreeva twice in the opening set and nearly did so again during a game that went to deuce eight times before the No. 6 seed forced a tiebreak.

While it may have seemed like Andreeva was going to seize control at that point, Boisson bounced back from an early deficit in the tiebreak to secure the set and fire up the crowd in her home country.

That crowd proved to be an issue for Andreeva in the early going, as she committed six double-faults and 22 unforced errors in that first set alone.

It was more of the same in the second set, as the favorite looked to be in control when she won the first three games before a complete collapse. Double-faults, glaring mistakes and missed shots she normally makes all started flaring up at once, and Boisson took full advantage.

It felt fitting that Andreeva missed a straightforward shot at the net to fall behind 5-3 in the second set and then never recovered in the ensuing service game.

This result continues Boisson's Cinderella run that includes the biggest upset of the tournament in a fourth-round win over third-seeded Jessica Pegula. She may have entered Roland-Garros as an unheralded wild card, but she has quickly become a fan favorite in her home Grand Slam while advancing to the semifinals.

That Boisson required surgery after she tore her ACL shortly before last year's Roland-Garros makes the story all the more incredible.

Andreeva figured to be a formidable foe considering she did not drop a set in this tournament leading into Wednesday's match. And despite her age at 18 years old, she is also more experienced on this stage after advancing to the semifinals last year before losing to Jasmine Paolini.

Still, that didn't stop Boisson from feeding off the crowd and controlling extended stretches of the match to clinch a semifinal showdown against Gauff that will have even more at stake.
