Nick Kyrgios to Miss Wimbledon 2025 After 'Small Setback' in Injury Recovery
Nick Kyrgios announced Tuesday that he will miss Wimbledon for a third consecutive year due to injury.
In a post on his Instagram Stories, Kyrgios wrote that he experienced a "small setback" in his recovery from wrist and shoulder injuries, which will force him to miss the entire grass-court season:
"Just wanted to give everyone a quick update - I've hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately won't make it back for grass season this year. I know how much you've all been looking forward to seeing me out there, and I'm genuinely sorry to disappoint. This is just a bump in the road though, and I'm already working hard to get back stronger than ever. Thank you for all your continued support - it means everything to me. See you soon!"
Kyrgios last played at Wimbledon in 2022, reaching the final where he fell to Novak Djokovic in four sets.
The 30-year-old Aussie played only one match across the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to various injuries to his ankle, knee, foot and wrist. The wrist injury required surgery, and it was a "full reconstruction."
After missing eight straight Grand Slam tournaments, Kyrgios returned to compete in the 2025 Australian Open earlier this year in his home country. He experienced an early exit, falling to Jacob Fearnley in the first round.
All told, Kyrgios has played in just five singles matches this year, posting a 1-4 record.
He last played at the Miami Open in March, beating Mackenzie McDonald in the first round before Karen Khachanov eliminated him in the second round.
The win over McDonald was Kyrgios' first victory since 2022, and while it boosted his ranking, he is currently the No. 633-ranked player in the world due to his lengthy absences.
At his height, Kyrgios was ranked as high as No. 13 in 2016, and he has a solid track record of success, the last couple of years notwithstanding.
In addition to being a one-time Wimbledon finalist, Kyrgios reached the Australian Open quarterfinals in 2015 and the U.S. Open quarters in 2022. Kyrgios won the doubles title at the 2022 Aussie Open as well.
Kyrgios has seven career ATP singles titles to his credit, with the most recent being the Washington Open in August 2022.
Unfortunately for Kyrgios, he will not have a chance to add to that total or vie for his first Grand Slam singles title when Wimbledon 2025 commences at the All England Club later this month.
