David Andrews Explains He Retired from NFL Because He 'Wanted to Finish' with Patriots

Jack MurrayJun 2, 2025

Former New England Patriots center David Andrews valued the concept of being a lifelong Patriot when it came to deciding on his NFL future.

The two-time Super Bowl Champion officially retired from the NFL on Monday during a press conference and said that the decision was heavily influenced by his desire to not play for any other teams.

"I didn't want to go do it for another organization," Andrews said, per Mike Reiss of ESPN. "That wasn't what I had in mind to finish my career. I wanted to finish it here and I did."

Andrews was cut by the Patriots in March after spending 10 seasons with the franchise. He was a key figure on the offensive line for the end of the Tom Brady-era and was a one of the final pieces remaining from that period when he was cut.

After cutting Andrews, the Patriots signed former Minnesota Vikings center Garrett Bradbury and then drafted Georgia center Jared Wilson in the third round.

The Patriots moved on from him and long snapper Joe Cardona in the offseason, which severed the last ties to the previous era. The team will now look to carve a new identity under head coach Mike Vrabel and quarterback Drake Maye while rebounding from consecutive 4-13 seasons.
