Devin Booker Reportedly Involved in Suns' HC Search as Bryant, Ott Emerge as Finalists
Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker will reportedly have some say in who his next head coach will be.
Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Suns have narrowed their coaching search down to two names and that Booker "has been involved in the search process over the past seven to 10 days."
Charania reported that the two contenders for the position are Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coaches Johnnie Bryant and Jordan Ott.
The Suns went 36-46 in 2024-25 and missed the postseason for the first time since 2019-20. Head coach Mike Budenholzer was fired after just one season at the helm, and he is the second consecutive coach to go one-and-done with the franchise.
Phoenix will hope the next coach will be able to stick around for more than a single season, and targeting the Cavaliers' assistants could be a solid idea. Bryant is currently the team's associate head coach while Ott is an assistant. Both are in their first year with that franchise and helped the team win 64 games alongside head coach Kenny Atkinson.
Neither coach has head coaching experience but could bring a new perspective to the team. Booker is notably under contract with the Suns through 2027-28, and his input should help the team be aligned under the next coach.
