Dodgers Reportedly Seek Left-Handed Hitter Ahead of 2025 MLB Trade Deadline
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a strong start to the 2025 season, but they're still looking to make some improvements before the trade deadline.
Those improvements come in the form of offensive depth. Per USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the defending champs "are scouring the market these days for a left-handed hitting bat off the bench."
Los Angeles' offense doesn't appear to need too many tweaks at this point in the season, but it's never a bad idea to get some insurance on the roster with how quickly injuries can become a factor over the course of a long season.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Through 59 games, the Dodgers lead the majors in hits (540), home runs (95), team batting average (.269) and OPS (.817). They also have the second-most RBI (328) and are tied for the most runs (341).
Los Angeles has plenty of lefty batters, considering Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Tommy Edman, Michael Conforto, Dalton Rushing and Hyeseong Kim all hit from the left side of the plate. Even with all those names, the Dodgers could benefit by adding some depth, especially with Conforto recording just a .173 average so far.
Who the team will target in a potential trade remains to be seen. Los Angeles likely isn't looking to add another star to its expensive payroll, especially if the Dodgers are expecting the new addition to serve primarily as depth. That should leave the team with plenty of options when it comes to left-handed batters, including some that won't cost too much ahead of the deadline on July 31.
Even if Los Angeles comes up short in the trade market, it can't be too disappointed considering how well the Dodgers have fared so far. They're currently sitting at the top of the NL West at 36-22 and have the fourth-best record in the majors.
