NFL Coach Says Jets 'Had All the Talent in the World, But They Never Played That Way'
The New York Jets are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 season, with belief around the NFL that the team failed to capitalize on its potential.
"They had all the talent in the world, but they never played that way," a longtime NFL coach told ESPN's Rich Cimini after studying the Jets on tape.
New York allowed a mere 313.8 yards per game on defense last season, the No. 3 mark in the league. The Jets only ranked No. 23 in defensive EPA, though (h/t Cimini).

New York also struggled offensively, ending the 2024 season as one of nine teams that averaged below 20 points per game. It was a surprising finish for a Jets squad that boasted Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall while making a midseason trade for Davante Adams.
The team has made major changes throughout the 2025 offseason, hiring new general manager Darren Mougey and new head coach Aaron Glenn.
New York will also have a fresh face under center, signing Justin Fields to a two-year contract worth $40 million in free agency after releasing Rodgers.
The Jets didn't make many major changes on defense but still boast key contributors including Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams, Will McDonald IV and Jermaine Johnson II. The team will be expecting improvements under new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.
While expectations may not be as lofty for New York compared to Rodgers' brief tenure with the team, it'll still be attempting to end the NFL's longest active playoff drought in 2025.
