Yankees' Aaron Judge Says He's 'Work in Progress' Despite Hot Start to 2025 MLB Season

Scott PolacekMay 24, 2025

If the 2025 version of Aaron Judge is a "work in progress," the rest of the league surely doesn't want to see what's in store in the future.

But the New York Yankees slugger insisted there is plenty of room to grow.

"I don't feel too great at the plate," he said after his team's 13-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday, per Pat Graham of the Associated Press. "Always a work in progress."

That "work in progress" launched his 18th home run of the season in the blowout victory. Not only is he a significant power source who leads the league in home runs, he is threatening to hit .400 as someone who is seemingly impossible to get out when he is dialed in at the plate.

Judge is slashing .395/.485/.759 with those 18 home runs and 46 RBI. The Triple Crown is very much in play if he continues to hit like he has at the start of the season, especially if he starts to feel even more comfortable at the plate as the year progresses.

To hear him tell it, he's always focused on what's ahead instead of what he's accomplished.

"My dad would always give me the quote, 'If what you did yesterday still seemed big today, then you haven't done anything today,'" he said. "So it doesn't matter what you did yesterday. If you're still happy about your good game last night, then you probably haven't done anything today."

The approach has worked out in 2025, as he is enjoying plenty of personal and team success.

New York is 31-20 and 5.5 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox in the American League East race as the 2025 campaign approaches its one-third mark.

Judge's list of accomplishments includes two American League MVPs, an AL Rookie of the Year, four Silver Sluggers, six All-Star nods and three different seasons when he led the league in home runs.

As long as he remains healthy and takes the strides he clearly expects to given his latest comments, he may be adding a Triple Crown and yet another home run title to that resume. It would also put him in position to add the biggest thing missing in a World Series crown.

Perhaps then he will feel like he is no longer a "work in progress" and instead one of the biggest stars in sports.
