George Pickens Pictured in No. 13 Cowboys Jersey for 1st Time After Steelers Trade
Newly acquired Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens is in attendance for OTAs on Tuesday, marking his first appearance in a Cowboys uniform.
Pickens was pictured in the No. 13 jersey for Tuesday's practice, though Clarence Hill Jr. of All City DLLS noted that his permanent jersey number has not yet been listed.
During his three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pickens wore No. 14. However, that number is currently occupied in Dallas by safety Markquese Bell, who is entering his fourth year with the franchise.
Pickens is certainly looking forward to a fresh start with the Cowboys. While he emerged as a promising young star with the Steelers, he developed a reputation for his volatile nature on the field. Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin called him out during the 2024 season for his penchant for on-field incidents.
"He's just got to grow up, man," Tomlin said of Pickens after a Week 13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. "... He's got a target on his back because he's George; he understands that. But he's got to grow up. He's got to grow up in a hurry."
Pickens will have the chance to silence his doubters as he joins a potent Cowboys offense led by quarterback Dak Prescott and star receiver CeeDee Lamb. The presence of Lamb should open more opportunities downfield for Pickens, who is known for his big-play abilities.
As a sign of his growing maturity, Pickens reportedly chose not to pursue a contract extension with the Cowboys because he wants to use the final year of his rookie deal to prove he can be a go-to option in any offense. The 2025 campaign will be crucial to Pickens' future career prospects.
