Juan Soto Reportedly Doesn't Get Private Jet for Road Games Despite Mets Contract Buzz

Timothy RappMay 19, 2025

The rumors that Juan Soto takes a private jet to road games as part of his massive 15-year, $765 million contract are not true, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Per that report, Soto "flies on the team plane" with his teammates for road games and does not have a "private-jet provision in his contract" for himself or his family.

Soto may not have access to a private jet, but he got just about everything else.

As part of his record-setting contract, he gets "free use of a luxury suite and up to four premium tickets behind home plate for regular-season and postseason [games]" at Citi Field, according to a December report from the Associated Press.

He also has personal private security provided for himself and family by the team for all spring training and regular-season games, both at home and on the road, and the team assists his family for in-season travel arrangements. Soto also receives a hotel suite for road games.

Additionally, he has a full no-trade clause and can opt out of the deal after the 2029 season, though the Mets can negate the opt-out by raising his salary by $4 million per season between the 2030-39 campaigns. That would bump the total value of his deal up to $805 million. He also has a number of contract incentives based around awards and honors, including a $500,000 bonus for winning his first MVP and a $1 million bonus for each subsequent MVP won.

And unlike Shohei Ohtani's 10-year, $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, none of Soto's money is deferred.

As for his performance on the field, the 26-year-old has had an up-and-down start to his Mets' tenure, hitting .246 this season with eight homers, 20 RBI, 33 runs, five stolen bases and a .822 OPS. Hardly shabby numbers, but not quite the MVP level New York fans are expecting.

He particularly earned the ire of the team's faithful in this weekend's Subway Series against his former team, the New York Yankees, finishing 1-for-10 with three walks, three strikeouts, two runs and no RBI. He also didn't endear himself to many fans when he didn't run out a groundout during the series, which was paired with the false rumors of his access to a private jet to create a pretty negative narrative around him following the Subway Series.

Except, it turns out, those rumors were completely false.
