Cam Ward Reportedly 'Really Impressed' Titans at Minicamp Ahead of Will Levis Battle
Cam Ward is reportedly already making quite the first impression on the Tennessee Titans at rookie minicamp.
"The Titans are really impressed with his sort of communication with his young players, especially since they have three fourth-round picks that are tight ends or wide receivers," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday's SportsCenter. "So, he's got playmakers there to work with that he's going to be building with for years to come they hope. And he's been really talkative and vocal with those guys, trying to get their timing right.
"If the rep's not right, he'll have them run it back with him. And so really, from a leadership standpoint, he's doing what they like. Titans, they're really focused on technique, some of those basics, but they like what Ward has to offer. Really, he came in knowing the playbook. That was important because throughout the process, he knew he was going to be a Titan for the most part, he dug in and got it done."

For his part, Ward said he will "always embrace competition" (6:25 mark) as he looks ahead to a quarterback battle with Will Levis.
"I always compete in everything I do with myself, other quarterbacks, receivers," he said. "Anything we're doing, we compete. So, it really don't bother me. At the end of the day, it's a job. So, that's how you got to approach it."
While it is still early in the process, that is exactly what Titans fans want to hear.
After all, the team selected Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft to be the franchise cornerstone for years to come. That he is already turning heads with his leadership and overall chemistry with his pass-catchers is a positive sign for the future when he competes with Levis for the starting job.
It seems like a matter of when and not if Ward beats out Levis for that starting role.
Ward was the top pick with plenty of expectations on his shoulders, while Levis has been inconsistent at best to start his NFL career. Levis went 2-10 as a starter for the Titans last season with 13 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions with a level of play that helped put the AFC South team in position to get the No. 1 pick.
But even with eventual-starter expectations from at least the fans when it comes to Ward, head coach Brian Callahan told reporters the plan is to "start small" with the No. 1 pick.
"What mistake did you make the day before? Did you correct it the next day?" Callahan said. "Can you take stuff from the meeting room out to the grass . . . Just keep your focus small and don't worry about September. We're worried about today's practice.
Even in starting small, Ward is catching on quickly.
"He's just a great leader," rookie tight end Gunnar Helm told reporters. "Super easy to talk to, super easy to connect with, super easy to communicate with on the field."
Chances are, that communication on the field will be happening in a starting role sooner rather than later during his rookie season.
