Darryn Peterson Tops AJ Dybantsa, Cameron Boozer in Final 2025 CBB Recruit Rankings

Kansas signee Darryn Peterson claimed the top spot in 247Sports' final rankings for the 2025 men's college basketball recruiting cycle.

The 5-star combo guard beat out BYU signee AJ Dybantsa and Duke signee Cameron Boozer.

A sign of how much the NIL era has leveled the playing field, 10 different schools are represented in 247Sports' top 10.

Arizona narrowly missed out by landing combo guard Brayden Burries (No. 9) and power forward Koa Peat (No. 11). Arkansas also signed two of the 13 best recruits with point guard Darius Acuff Jr. and shooting guard Meleek Thomas.

Fresh off reaching the NCAA championship game, Houston sits atop 247Sports' team rankings. The Cougars signed power forward Chris Cenac Jr., shooting guard Isiah Harwell, point guard Kingston Flemings and shooting guard Bryce Jackson in addition to getting former Creighton guard Pop Isaacs and former Sam Houston power forward Kalifa Sakho out of the transfer portal.

Peterson first signed with Kansas in November, and head coach Bill Self emphasized what it meant for the program.

"This is one of the best recruiting moments that Kansas basketball has had in decades," he said. "Darryn is an all-around guard that scores at all levels and is also a terrific facilitator and defender. He has been well drilled and has a toughness about him being raised in a family where his brother is a successful football player at Wisconsin."

The general perception around the Jayhawks has shifted quite a bit in subsequent months.

The team went 21-12 in the regular season before losing to Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA tournament. That followed a similarly disappointing finish in 2023-24, which saw Kansas blown out by Gonzaga in the second round.

The pressure on Self is starting to build, and the retirement of assistant coach Norm Roberts presents another variable heading into 2025-26.

While the Jayhawks aren't going to be a preseason championship favorite, fans will expect Self to maximize what's likely to be Peterson's lone season in Lawrence before he heads to the NBA.
