Tom Brady Talks Regrets from Viral Roast, Says Some Things You 'F--k Up' as a Parent

Mike ChiariMay 7, 2025

Legendary former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady admitted this week that he has since second-guessed his decision to take part in a roast last year.

The Roast of Tom Brady was held last May, and it gained a ton of online attention after streaming on Netflix due to some of the shocking jokes made at the expense of Brady and those close to him.

Comedians such as Kevin Hart, Nikki Glaser, Jeff Ross and Tony Hinchcliffe didn't pull any punches, nor did former Brady teammates and opponents in the NFL, including Rob Gronkowski, Randy Moss, Julian Edelman, Drew Bledsoe and Peyton Manning.

During an appearance this week on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast (h/t SI.com's Jimmy Traina), Brady noted that while he enjoyed the performances and the atmosphere, he regrets how it impacted his children, saying:

"But I do understand for my kids, that was really hard. There are some things as a parent you f--k up and you don't realize until after. We're not perfect parents. There's no perfect manual for it. And you have to evaluate yourself as a parent all the time. ...

"And then I'll never forget when I talked to my kids the next day. It felt like a stake through the heart, and understandably. They're protective of their mom, their dad. 'What was the point of that? Why did you do that?'"

Brady's ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, was the target of many of the jokes told throughout the three-hour roast.

Brady and Bündchen were married from 2009 until their divorce in 2022, and they had two children while they were together. Brady also has a son from a previous relationship.

Following the divorce, Bündchen began dating Joaquim Valente, who was her jiu-jitsu instructor while she and Brady were still together. That was naturally a target for multiple jokes told at the roast.

Brady, who is currently an NFL analyst on Fox and minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, told Paul that he agreed to the roast because of his affinity for "laughing at myself."

Although Brady said the event itself was "electric," the benefit of hindsight has him rethinking his decision.
