Tom Brady 'Stayed Away' During Raiders' Draft but Endorsed QB Cam Miller in 6th Round
Not being in Green Bay with the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2025 NFL draft reportedly didn't stop minority owner Tom Brady from weighing in on some of the team's decisions.
According to The Athletic's Dan Pompei, "Brady stayed away but was in constant communication" with the Raiders during the draft.
Pompei reported that Brady came to Las Vegas ahead of the 2025 draft in order to consult with Raiders general manager John Spytek about quarterback prospects.
โWhen we are looking at quarterbacks, weโd have to be fools not to involve him,โ Spytek told Pompei. โTom is the foremost expert on quarterback play Iโve ever been around.โ
Brady said himself during an appearance on the IMPAULSIVE podcast that he did not take part in the Raiders' evaluation process ahead of the NFL Draft.
The Raiders ultimately used the No. 215 pick to select North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller in the sixth round. Brady was "on board" with the pick, according to Pompei.
โHe liked the way he threw it, his technique, throwing from the ground up and his motion,โ Spytek said about Brady's impression of Miller, per Pompei. โAnd he thought he had the potential to improve.โ
Miller, who helped lead NDSU to FCS championships in 2022 and 2024 , said after the draft that he hadn't talked with Brady but that Spytek had talked to him "about how they want to bring in people that are winners, and they've been accustomed and used to winning games."
"I think that that was really the x-factor in their choice to take me in the draft," Miller said.
For now, Miller will now slot in on the Raiders depth chart behind starter Geno Smith and projected backup Aidan O'Connell. Brady, who was originally selected in the sixth round of his own NFL draft, could potentially contribute to his development this summer.
