Brock Purdy Reportedly Expected to Get New 49ers Contract 'Around $50M Per Season'
Brock Purdy is reportedly in line to get quite the raise.
Mike Jones of The Athletic reported Monday the San Francisco 49ers quarterback "is expected to wind up with a contract that will pay him around $50 million per season and places him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league."
Purdy, the final pick of the 2022 NFL draft, is in line to make $5.3 million in base salary in 2025, which is the final year of his rookie contract.
"It now seems like a matter of when, not if, Purdy gets paid," Jones wrote. He noted the Niners "have been trying to work out a deal that gives the quarterback long-term security and also avoids any holdouts this summer or early season."
San Francisco just made George Kittle the highest-paid tight end in league history with a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension, so now it can shift even more attention toward the signal-caller's contract situation.
Purdy certainly didn't seem like he was preparing for a holdout when he arrived at the team's first day of voluntary offseason workouts last month.
He also told reporters in January he didn't want a prolonged process that lasted throughout the entire offseason.
"If there’s an opportunity to get that done quick, that would be great," Purdy said. "Just so we can get back for Phase 1, get after it with the receivers and our team and just continue to grow. Because, man, we’ve all got to grow together. … Phase I of OTAs, in my mind, it’s we come back, get all the guys back and let’s roll. And let’s get after the offseason together."
The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Friday's episode of her Scoop City podcast (8:45 mark) that the quarterback and team were "closer" to a deal than some thought.
The question with Purdy has always been how much is his success a product of his surroundings with head coach Kyle Shanahan and playmakers such as Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel (now on the Washington Commanders), but he has done nothing but perform.
He went 5-0 as a starter in 2022 and then led the team to the NFC Championship Game before a 2023 campaign that saw him make the Pro Bowl and lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl. He even threw for 3,864 yards in 15 games during a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw San Francisco miss the playoffs due to a relentless wave of injuries.
It seems like Purdy is now in line to get rewarded for his efforts with a significant deal.
