Tetairoa McMillan, Panthers Agree to Reported $27.9M Contract After 2025 NFL Draft

Julia StumbaughMay 8, 2025

The Carolina Panthers are hoping they've locked in their receiving duo of the future.

The Panthers and 2025 No. 8 pick Tetairoa McMillan agreed to a rookie contract, the team announced on Thursday. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, McMillan's deal is worth $27.9 million over four years.

McMillan will now join 2024 first-rounder Xavier Legette as a top target for Carolina quarterback Bryce Young.

The Panthers traded up last year to be able to get a fifth-year option on Legette's contract, per Panthers.com's Darin Gantt.

Adding McMillan in the 2025 first round means the Panthers now have both wideouts locked in through at least the 2027 season.

Legette had an up-and-down rookie season in 2024, during which he ranked top-10 among NFL rookie receivers with 49 catches and 497 receiving yards but struggled with drops in key moments.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales said at the beginning of April the franchise still believes Legette could be a potential WR1.

The franchise could now be hoping the addition of McMillan, praised for his versatility throughout Arizona's offensive scheme by B/R NFL scout Dame Parson, can take some pressure off Legette and allow him to take a step forward in his second NFL season.

Ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect available in the draft on the final B/R 2025 NFL Draft Big Board, McMillan ranked third in the nation with 1,319 receiving yards during his final season at Arizona.

Parson, who noted that McMillan's size of 6-foot-4, 219 pounds makes him a difficult matchup for defenders, projects the wideout as "a No. 1 wide receiver who you pepper with a high amount of targets per game."

The Panthers are hoping to see a breakout season from Young in 2025 after Canales reconfirmed his status as QB1 after the 2024 season. If McMillan can find a fit in Brad Idzik's offensive scheme, his adaptability will hopefully help both Young and Legette take a step forward next fall.
