The trailer for the upcoming film The Smashing Machine starring WWE legend Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was released by the A24 production company Tuesday.
In The Smashing Machine, The Rock portrays Mark Kerr, who was a mixed martial arts pioneer in the late 1990s and throughout the 2000s, competing in the UFC and Pride.
After starring in amateur wrestling at Syracuse University, Kerr became a pro MMA fighter in 1997, winning the heavyweight tournament at both UFC 14 and UFC 15.
He later went on to excel in Pride Fighting Championships in Japan, competing on the second-ever Pride card in 1998.
Kerr began his pro career 12-0 with one no contest before 11 of his final 14 fights and retiring with a career record of 15-11.
The Smashing Machine also stars Emily Blunt as Kerr's love interest, plus several notable names from the combat sports world, such as MMA fighters Bas Rutten and Ryan Bader, and heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Benny Safdie is the director and co-producer of the film, while The Rock is also serving as a co-producer with involvement from his Seven Bucks Productions company.
The Rock is wearing many hats currently as a superstar actor and producer, co-owner of the United Football League and a member of the TKO board of directors, which oversees WWE.
The Smashing Machine, which has the chance to be the latest in a long line of Hollywood blockbusters for The Rock, is set for an Oct. 3, 2025, release in theaters.
