NFL Coach Calls Shemar Stewart 'Most Overrated' in 2025 Draft, 'It’s Boom or Bust'
Texas A&M's Shemar Stewart is considered one of the best edge-rushers in the 2025 NFL draft, but not everyone is convinced of his potential.
Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported that while Stewart is an athletic marvel, "there are a lot of teams out on him" due to his lackluster statistics over his three-year career with the Aggies.
"The most overrated guy in the draft," one coach told Breer. "Watch the last two years. Does he ever make a play? I just kept watching, there’s no awareness, no instincts. I can’t get over the lack of production. … It’s boom or bust. He’s a swing for the fences."
Stewart produced a total of 4.5 sacks across 37 games in three years, 1.5 in each season. In 2024, he finished with a career-best 31 total tackles while adding two passes defended and a forced fumble.
Despite his less-than-stellar production, Stewart impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine when he ran a 4.59 40-yard dash and recorded a 40-inch vertical. B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked him as the No. 3 edge-rusher on its draft big board and predicted he would land with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 19 pick in its mock draft.
Stewart will be an interesting prospect to watch, as he will have the chance to prove his doubters wrong at the next level.
