Tet McMillan Reportedly Compared to Bucs' Mike Evans by NFL Insiders Ahead of Draft

Adam WellsApr 24, 2025

Tetairoa McMillan isn't lacking for acclaim leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, but drawing comparisons to a future Hall of Famer will only increase the anticipation for where he might land in the first round on Thursday night.

Per ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., McMillan's skill set is being compared to Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Mike Evans by some people within the NFL.

There are certainly parallels to draw between McMillan right now and Evans when he was a prospect entering the NFL in 2014.

Scouting reports for Evans praised his size, ability to high point the ball, make catches in traffic with strong hands and pick up yards after the catch, but there were concerns about his speed only because it took him time to reach full acceleration.

When Evans got the wheels going, there was little doubt he could make defenders miss.

In his scouting report for McMillan, B/R's Dame Parson praised the Arizona star for being able to use his frame to make difficult catches, win in the red zone and outmuscle defensive backs on jump balls.

Parson's player comps for McMillan were Evans and Tee Higgins.

There are also some questions about McMillan's top end speed on the outside, though he did reportedly run the 40 in 4.48 seconds at a private workout in March.

Even though that's not a blazing fast time, McMillan is listed at 6'4 and 219 pounds. By comparison, Evans ran the 40 in 4.53 seconds 11 years ago at 6'4" and 231 pounds.

Evans has worked out just fine with more than 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 seasons and 105 receiving touchdowns in 168 career games.

That's a ridiculously high bar for any incoming prospect to hit, so no one should expect McMillan to put up those types of numbers. He's got all the skill and ability to be a difference-making player for any offense in the NFL as a rookie.
