Garrett Wilson, Jets Reportedly Agree to $130M Contract Extension, $90M Guaranteed

The New York Jets are keeping their No. 1 wide receiver for the foreseeable future.

New York and Garrett Wilson agreed to a new four-year, $130 million contract extension on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

This was the logical next step after Schefter reported on April 21 that the Jets picked up Wilson's $16.8 million fifth-year option on his rookie deal for the 2026 campaign. They also did so with cornerback Sauce Gardner ($20.1 million) and defensive end Jermaine Johnson ($13.4 million), who, along with Wilson, were 2022 first-round draft picks.

May 1 was the deadline for teams to exercise fifth-year options for their 2022 first-round picks.

Those moves were expected, seeing how Gardner and Wilson are arguably the top two players on the team. It also marked a significant raise from $1.1 million in base salary in 2025 for the wide receiver, and now he has the security of a longer deal beyond that initial raise.

That New York wanted to keep the Ohio State product around for longer is anything but a surprise.

Wilson wasted no time establishing himself at the NFL level as the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year with 83 catches for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns. He was effective again in 2023 with 95 catches for 1,042 yards and three touchdowns.

He put up those numbers while the Jets relayed through Zach Wilson, Mike White, Joe Flacco, Chris Streveler, Trevor Siemian and Tim Boyle under center. The 2024 campaign was supposed to provide more stability with Aaron Rodgers returning after he suffered an Achilles injury the prior year.

Instead, the team went 5-12 as the veteran quarterback struggled to replicate his previous form with the Green Bay Packers. While Wilson was overshadowed at times by Davante Adams, he was still a bright spot on a team without many.

He posted career-highs across the board with 101 catches for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns, which surely helped earn him this new deal.

New York moved on from both Rodgers and Adams ahead of the 2025 season and landed Wilson's former Ohio State teammate, Justin Fields, as its new quarterback. That seemed to indicate the front office believed in the potential chemistry between quarterback and wide receiver as it moved forward following Rodgers' disappointing tenure.

This new contract further underscores that belief in Wilson.
