NFL Insiders Feel Jalen Milroe is 'Greatest' Running QB They've Ever Evaluated

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has made a strong impression on teams with his running ability leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

"The eye-opening thing that several, not one, several coaches and scouts told me as I was making calls about all these quarterbacks is Jalen Milroe is the greatest runner of the football they've ever evaluated at the quarterback position," Pelissero reported Monday.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler previously reported that Milroe was viewed as "an early Day 2 proposition" but could "sneak" into the late first round of the draft.

The 22-year-old posted an impressive 40-yard dash time of 4.40 seconds at Alabama's pro day, according to the SEC Network.

Milroe struggled with inconsistency as a passer during his final year with the Crimson Tide. His 64.3 completion percentage and 16 touchdown passes were both decreases from his 2023 production and he was picked off 11 times.

Still, his dual-threat capabilities were on full display. Milroe rushed for 726 yards and found the end zone 20 times on the ground, totaling the second-most rushing touchdowns in the country among quarterbacks during the 2024 season.

He's earned praise from NFL personnel both publicly and privately, with Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry comparing his speed to Baltimore Ravens superstar Lamar Jackson.

"Jalen, he's got rare physical talent," Berry told reporters on Thursday. "When he gets to the NFL, he may be the only quarterback who's faster than Lamar Jackson."

Milroe was listed as the No. 5 quarterback in the 2025 draft class on the most recent big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department.

B/R NFL Scout Dame Parson compared Milroe to Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts in his scouting report.

"Jalen Milroe is the most physically gifted quarterback prospect in the draft class," Parson wrote. "He is one of the most explosive athletes at any position in college football."

While Milroe has some room to improve as a pocket passer, his elite athleticism could convince teams to bet on his upside once the first round of the draft begins on Thursday.
