Biggest Takeaways from WWE WrestleMania 41 Night 1 Match Card Results

Graham GSM MatthewsApr 20, 2025

Despite having the clearly weaker lineup on paper compared to Night 2, Night 1 of WWE WrestleMania 41 did have its fair share of highlights that have left fans buzzing.

The show started strong with Jey Uso finally conquering Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, resulting in quite the monumental 'Mania moment. Uso's connection with the crowd is undeniable, but how WWE plans to follow up with him is of equal importance.

Seth Rollins shocked the world by not only besting Roman Reigns and CM Punk in a Triple Threat match but also leaving with his former foe Paul Heyman. The new alliance has the potential to really rejuvenate Raw during the usual post-WrestleMania lull.

Also in action, Jacob Fatu clinched the United States Championship, Tiffany Stratton retained her title against Charlotte Flair and Rey Fenix filled in for an injured Rey Mysterio for a fun match with El Grande Americano. The energy died down during the midcard, but the opening and closing matches being as memorable as they were salvaged the event.

From Rollins rejuvenating his stagnant character to what's next for several Superstars, these are the top takeaways from Night 1 of WWE's WrestleMania 41 match card results.

Jey Uso's World Title Reign Doesn't Need to Be Lengthy

1 of 5

After the many times he had fallen short when it had mattered most in the past, Jey Uso winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41 was the only outcome to his clash with Gunther that made sense.

The match itself was essentially what it was expected to be as well as what it needed to be with Uso and Gunther exchanging signature moves and playing off the drama that the pressure was on for Uso with every suspenseful nearfall. Uso celebrating his championship win with the tens of thousands in attendance was nothing short of a WrestleMania moment.

Uso has always thrived in chase mode, which is why it isn't necessary for this title reign of his to be a lengthy one.

His title win proved that the crowds remain incredibly behind him regardless of what happens from here. He's proven he can be a world champion, but that doesn't mean he needs to hold the gold for more than a few months if that.

Uso may not be capable of carrying Raw on his back as champ for months at a time, but there can now no longer be a doubt that he is indeed “Main Event” material as his moniker suggests.

Rey Fenix Will Be Fine

2 of 5

The bout between El Grande Americano and Rey Mysterio had to be changed after an injury to Mysterio on Friday's SmackDown sidelined him from The Show of Shows.

Rey Fenix, one of WWE's newest and hottest acquisitions, ultimately served as his replacement and did an excellent job against Americano. While it was basically WWE TV quality, it was an enjoyable outing for what it was that saw Americano score the tainted victory following his use of a loaded mask.

Ideally, Fenix shouldn't have lost what was only his fourth televised match with the company, but with it simultaneously marking his 'Mania debut and the match not having any prior build, there was no harm in him suffering the loss.

That's in addition to Americano needing the victory to ensure he was protected ahead of his eventual matchup with Mysterio. Fenix and Americano are on opposing brands at the moment, so their WrestleMania encounter didn't need to be anything other than a one-off.

Fenix is a tremendously talented performer who has shined so far in WWE, so this setback will hardly hurt him in the long run.

Charlotte Flair Is No Longer the Unbeatable Obstacle of WWE's Women's Division

3 of 5

There was plenty of concern from fans heading into WrestleMania 41 that Tiffany Stratton's run as WWE Women's champion was nearing its end if their heated exchanges on the mic were any indication.

After all, Flair has a track record of winning matches on The Grandest Stage of Them All that she arguably should have lost and her match with Stratton was shaping up to be another example of that.

Stratton's momentum wouldn't have been ruined had she lost the title to Flair—depending on the aftermath, of course—but she had much more to gain from winning. WWE thankfully went with the right result.

Furthermore, it was a decisive victory for Stratton, establishing her superiority over Flair in the process. The rivalry can continue, but it was important for her to win when the lights were on bright.

It will do little to change fans' perception of Flair, but no longer is she the unbeatable obstacle that she's made out to be in the women's division. She's still very much the measuring stick for success, but with it being now over two years since she last held gold, the narrative that she only ever “buries” up-and-coming talent and holds the title hostage couldn't be any further from the truth.

LA Knight Is Ready to Be Elevated Up the Card

4 of 5

The United States Championship match between LA Knight and Jacob Fatu was secretly a show-stealer in the middle of the card on Night 1 of WrestleMania 41. Their feud had very little storyline support going into the event, but they delivered a highly entertaining outing, regardless.

Fatu capturing the star-spangled prize was obviously eventful and is yet another sign of his success, but the bigger question is where this leaves Knight going forward.

Knight only just recently regained the gold, seemingly solely to serve as a transitional champ and drop it to Fatu. He remains extremely over with the audience and shouldn't be positioned as a background player now that he is without a title once again.

If anything, the end of his second reign with the strap should allow him to ascend the card and take his rightful place in the main-event scene where he belongs.

Knight excelled during his feud with Roman Reigns at the end of 2023 and should be back in that mix with the elite athletes of SmackDown. He's ready for that next step and the post-WrestleMania period is the perfect time to give him another shot toward the top of the card.

Seth Rollins Is Finally Interesting Again

5 of 5

Seth Rollins walking out of the main-event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 41 victorious with Paul Heyman by his side certainly wasn't the most shocking outcome, but that didn't take away from the magic of the moment.

Heyman's betrayals of both CM Punk and Roman Reigns make matters infinitely more interesting for the two of them, but most importantly, Rollins is a compelling character again for the first time in what feels like forever.

Rollins' popularity has never wavered, but various storylines he's been involved in over the years have lacked depth because of his one-dimensional Visionary persona. He upped the intensity when necessary, but he has experienced very little development otherwise.

This supposed heel turn was exactly what he needed to feel fresh again and leave fans wondering what's next for him, Heyman and the rest of the roster. Targeting the World Heavyweight Championship should be his greater goal, but that doesn't need to be imminent.

The unlikely alliance of Rollins and Heyman could end up paying off spectacularly if booked properly as they fill a void for credible heels at WWE's main-event level.
