CM Punk Says He's Unsure About Signing New 5-Year WWE Contract Before WrestleMania 41

Mike ChiariApr 18, 2025

Despite the success of CM Punk's return to WWE, the 46-year-old veteran may not be ready yet to make a long-term commitment to the company.

During an appearance Friday on the Masked Man Show (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Punk divulged that WWE wants to sign him to a new, five-year contract.

While Punk didn't completely dismiss the idea of signing the deal eventually, he expressed apprehension, saying: "They're trying to get me to sign a five-year deal. So I look at that and I go, 'Guys, I don't know.'"

If Punk were to sign a five-year contract, it would bring him past the age of 50 as an active wrestler. Punk suggested he has some concerns about whether he can hold up that long despite feeling good now, saying: "Your body's going to give up on you way before your mind does. To me, my mind's never been sharper. I've never been more focused."

After a highly successful career on the independent scene, including establishing himself as one of the biggest stars in ROH history, Punk signed with WWE in 2005.

He worked his way to the top, becoming a five-time world champion in WWE before walking out in early 2014.

Punk would spend over seven years out of pro wrestling before signing with AEW in 2021 where he remained until 2023.

After getting released by AEW, it was unclear what the future held for Punk in wrestling, but he ultimately buried the hatchet with WWE and made a surprise return at Survivor Series 2023 in his hometown of Chicago.

Punk has been one of WWE's top stars ever since, eliciting hugely positive crowd reactions wherever he goes.

Also, by all accounts, Punk had been a model employee backstage, allaying any concerns that may have existed after the issues he had with some co-workers in AEW.

Punk's hard work and positivity have been rewarded, as he will compete in his first WrestleMania main event on Saturday, facing Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in the closing match of Night 1 of WrestleMania 41.

All signs point toward Punk continuing to receive a major push coming out of WrestleMania and potentially entering the world title mix as well.

Whether that continues for years to come seems to be entirely up to Punk, as every indication is that he will be a main attraction in WWE for as long as he desires.
