NFL GM Reportedly Says 'Superstar' Ashton Jeanty 'Is Being Slept On' Before NFL Draft

Zach BacharApr 17, 2025

There's belief that Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty's future is even brighter than most anticipate heading into the 2025 NFL draft.

"I had a GM tell me a couple of days ago that Ashton Jeanty is being slept on," Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz reported on The Herd.

"This guy is a superstar," he added. "People are talking about him like he's this really good player, maybe a great player. He is a superstar."

NFL draft expert Todd McShay also revealed that "a lot" of insiders have Jeanty graded as one of the three best prospects in the draft.

The 21-year-old hasn't been shy about expressing his confidence as he's navigated through the pre-draft process, drawing comparisons between himself and Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley in an open letter to NFL general managers.

Jeanty wrapped up a dominant senior season at Boise State in 2024, leading the country with 2,601 rush yards. He routinely broke tackles and evaded defenders, averaging 7.0 yards per carry while scoring 30 total touchdowns.

He finished No. 2 in Heisman Trophy voting.

While running backs aren't typically viewed as top draft picks, that could change with Jeanty. ESPN's Matt Miller reported that the Chicago Bears "love" him as a prospect and could select him with the No. 10 overall pick "if he's still around."

On the latest big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department, Jeanty was ranked as the No. 1 running back and No. 6 overall player in the 2025 class.

B/R NFL Scout Dame Parson compared Jeanty to former three-time Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew in his scouting report.

"Between his bowling ball-esque frame and ELITE contact balance, Jeanty's game translates incredibly well to the NFL," Parson wrote. "He fits today's run offenses with wide zone and pin-pull gap schemes. Jeanty is a bell-cow running back who can shoulder the load for an NFL rushing attack."

With his long-term future in the league viewed as extremely promising by at least one general manager, Jeanty could hear his name called earlier than expected on draft night.
