Cody Rhodes Says Travis Scott 'Kind of Sucks' for Slap; Reacts to John Cena Heel Turn

Mike ChiariApr 17, 2025

Ahead of WrestleMania 41 this weekend in Las Vegas, WWE champion Cody Rhodes gave his thoughts on rapper Travis Scott, as well as John Cena's recent heel turn.

During an appearance on ESPN's First Take on Thursday (beginning at the 3:45 mark of the video), Rhodes discussed the role Scott played in Cena's heel turn at Elimination Chamber last month:

After Cena turned heel by attacking Rhodes at The Rock's behest, Scott got a shot in on The American Nightmare by punching him in the face while he was down on the canvas.

Rhodes was sporting a black eye when he next appeared on television, and he confirmed Thursday that Scott also busted his eardrum.

With regard to Scott, Rhodes said, "Travis Scott for as talented as he is--and he's an incredibly talented guy who I'd even bought his kicks, I got a pair for [my daughter] Liberty as well--Travis Scott kind of sucks."

Cody went on to note that WWE head of creative Triple H confirmed Scott will be in Las Vegas for WrestleMania, and he expressed his desire to provide a "receipt" to Scott, which suggests he will be out for payback.

On the subject of Cena's heel turn (beginning at the 1:05 mark of the video), Rhodes noted that it caught him off guard just like the fans, saying: "I think I was as surprised as the rest of the audience because that's a thing we never expected in the sports entertainment, pro wrestling realm. ... The idea that John would be bad, would be a heel, just an absurd thought."

Cena's turn was indeed among the most shocking moments in pro wrestling history, as he had not been a heel in more than 20 years, and he is among the most beloved babyfaces of all time.

Now, in his final year as an active in-ring competitor, Cena is a villain, and he will look to set a new record with his 17th career world title win by beating Rhodes on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

All eyes will be on Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas when Rhodes and Cena clash in the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 41, which could see both Scott and The Rock get involved in some capacity as well.
