OVERALL

LaJohntay Wester is a slot-only receiver with quick-twitch movements and route-running.

Wester creates natural and easy separation with speed and sharp plants/cuts at the top of routes. He has the top-end speed needed to stress defenders on slot fades and vertical routes. He is a volume slot receiver and a mismatch for most safeties and linebackers.

Wester primarily lines up in the slot. With a two-way go, he stresses the defender’s ability to stay in phase after the release. Wester is a good route-runner and uses his body to sell the route. He alters his route tempo and speed to keep defenders off balance.

Wester is good after the catch with his experience as a return specialist. His quickness and suddenness generate missed tackles and less-than-ideal pursuit angles in space. He is adept with the football, bringing effectiveness and acceleration after the catch on gadget and manufactured touches.

Wester struggles defeating physical press corners. His lack of strength and length leaves him vulnerable to jump-and-run coverage. Wester’s wingspan and catch radius are small and limit his effectiveness on passes away from his frame. He will not convert many 50-50 or contested catches into receptions.

Wester needs to clean up his struggles with drops. One of the fastest ways to lose the faith of your quarterback and coaching staff in the NFL is by dropping on-target passes. He allows the ball into his frame in an attempt to trap it instead of using his hands to reel it in.

Wester projects as a slot-only receiver with quickness and speed. He offers special teams value as a punt returner. Wester can flip field possession for his offense. However, he will require pre-snap motions to keep him off the line for free releases against NFL corners.
