Jacob Fatu Beats LA Knight to Win WWE USA Title at WrestleMania 41

Jacob Fatu beat LA Knight on Night 1 of WrestleMania 41 on Saturday to win the United States Championship.

Fatu delivered a pop-up moonsault before pinning The Megastar and claiming the title for his first singles gold in WWE.

The clash between Knight and Fatu has been a long time coming, as The Megastar was a target of what was once known as The Bloodline for months.

Back in January, Fatu and Tama Tonga spoiled his opportunity to recapture the U.S. title from Shinsuke Nakamura by attacking Knight and causing the match to be ruled a disqualification.

The Megastar finally got another chance two months later, and he made good on it by defeating Nakamura on the March 7 episode of SmackDown to become a two-time United States champ.

The next week on SmackDown, Knight teamed with Braun Strowman and Jimmy Uso in a winning effort over Fatu, Tonga and Solo Sikoa.

That eventually led to Strowman being granted a shot at the U.S. title, but there was no clear winner since Fatu interfered, causing Knight vs. Strowman to be ruled a no-contest.

To settle the issues between Fatu and Strowman, and determine Knight's opponent for WrestleMania in the process, a Last Man Standing match between Braun and The Samoan Werewolf took place on the April 4 SmackDown.

Fatu survived an all-out war to become No. 1 contender, setting the stage for his title shot against Knight at The Show of Shows.

It marked the second straight year Knight competed in a singles match on The Grandest Stage of Them All, as he beat AJ Styles at WrestleMania 40 last year in what was arguably the biggest victory of his career to that point.

Knight faced a much different challenge this time around, and the pure strength, explosiveness and viciousness of Fatu proved too much to overcome, as The Samoan Werewolf got the better of Knight to win the first singles championship of his WWE career.
