D-Backs' Ketel Marte Placed on IL with Hamstring Injury After $116.5M Contract
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Saturday that they placed star second baseman Ketel Marte on the 10-day injured list due to a strained left hamstring.
To take Marte's spot on the roster, Arizona also recalled infielder Tim Tawa from Triple-A Reno.
Marte, 31, signed a six-year, $116.5 million contract extension with the D-Backs on Wednesday, meaning he is under contract through the 2031 season.

Marte injured his hamstring on Friday while legging out a double during the first inning of Arizona's 6-4 win over the Washington Nationals.
After laboring into second base, Marte was removed from the game and replaced by Garrett Hampson.
Manager Torey Lovullo told reporters after the game that Marte was "most likely headed for the IL."
Marte has spent nine of his 11 MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks after beginning his career as a member of the Seattle Mariners.
He enjoyed a breakout season back in 2019, slashing .329/.389/.592 with 32 home runs, 92 RBI, 97 runs scored and 10 stolen bases en route to being named an All-Star for the first time and finishing fourth in the National League MVP voting.
The COVID-shortened 2020 season and injuries in 2021 halted Marte's momentum, but he has gotten back on track the past few years.
In 2023, Marte slashed .276/.358/.485 with 25 homers and 82 RBI, and he played a significant role in the Diamondbacks unexpectedly making it all the way to the playoffs, as he hit .329 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 17 playoff games.
Then, Marte had arguably the best year of his career last season, slashing .292/.372/.560 with a career-high 36 home runs and 95 RBI, as well as 93 runs scored and seven steals.
Arizona missed out on the playoffs due to a tiebreaker, but it entered the 2025 campaign with high hopes to return to the postseason.
Marte was off to a solid start through eight games for the 5-3 D-Backs, slashing .346/.469/.462 with no homers, one RBI and six runs.
While Marte is on the shelf, all signs point toward Hampson receiving the bulk of the playing time at second base.
The 30-year-old veteran is in the midst of his first season with the Diamondbacks after stints with the Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins and Kansas City Royals.
In 634 career games, Hampson is slashing .240/.301/.361 with 29 home runs, 129 RBI, 215 runs and 65 stolen bases.
