Darius Slayton Defends Shedeur Sanders Video from Pro Day amid Andre Cisco Criticism

Adam WellsApr 5, 2025

The NFL offseason doesn't stop receivers and defensive backs from having takes about quarterbacks, with Shedeur Sanders' workout at Colorado's pro day serving as the impetus for a debate involving New York Giants wideout Darius Slayton and New York Jets safety Andre Cisco.

It started on Friday with Cisco replying to a video of Sanders throwing, noting he needs to "stop patting" the ball" before releasing it.

Slayton didn't respond directly to Cisco, but a different video pointing out that Sanders was patting the ball prompted the Giants receiver to chime in.

There didn't seem to be a lot of concern from talent evaluators watching the showcase about Sanders' patting the ball.

Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz noted one top-level NFL executive praised Sanders for throwing with "more" power and velocity on Friday than they were expecting to see.

NFL.com's Eric Edholm did point out that Sanders' throws outside the numbers "tended to have more" wobble than his deep shots in the middle of the field that were "tighter and cleaner" than anticipated.

The unofficial tally for Sanders was 58-of-63 with three of his five incompletions going for drops, per Shrine Bowl director of football operations and player personnel Eric Galko.

Sanders' draft stock remains a mystery at this point in the process. He seems almost certain to be selected very high in the first round, but his potential landing spots vary.

B/R's NFL scouting department's most recent mock draft has Sanders going to the New Orleans Saints at No. 9 overall. It wouldn't be a surprise if he goes as high as No. 2 to the Cleveland Browns, with teams like the New York Giants (No. 3), New York Jets (No. 7) and Saints all in need of a long-term answer at quarterback.

Slayton's comment certainly isn't an indication the Giants are definitely going to take Sanders if he's on the board, but it can't hurt his chances to have a receiver on the team defending his skill set from skeptics.
