Titans Announce Light Blue Uniforms Will Be Home Jerseys Starting in 2025 NFL Season

The Tennessee Titans announced they're making light blue the primary color for their home uniforms during the 2025 NFL season.

"We're talking to fans and we're listening, and there's a clear appetite to have the Titans, their team, represented on the field in this noticeable color that has been with this team from 1960 in Houston, into Memphis, at Vanderbilt and as we've played at Nissan Stadium," team president Burke Nihill said to Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site.

The navy blue jersey set will now be the Titans' alternates, though it might be left in the wardrobe most Sundays. Nihill told Wyatt that "the plan is to wear Titans blue at every one of our home games this year."

The franchise initially carried over its Oilers branding after relocating from Houston in 1997. It wasn't until 1999 that the Titans adopted their current name and logo.

Since then, they've rotated between the navy and light blue variations for their primary home threads.

Wyatt provided one important detail from Thursday's announcement. The Houston Oilers throwbacks won't be making an apparence in 2025 or for the foreseeable future.

Losing the Oilers remains a sore point for Houston-area residents. Those feelings were heightened in 2023 after the NFL sent a cease-and-desist letter to the University of Houston after the Cougars football team wore Oiler-themed light blue alternate uniforms.

As much as the Oilers jerseys are iconic, shelving them indefinitely is probably the right call.
