Lionel Messi's Bodyguard Challenges Logan Paul to Fight in Video: 'There's No Way Out'

Adam WellsMar 26, 2025

Rather than let the courts settle the legal battle between competing sports drinks from Lionel Messi and Logan Paul, one member of Messi's camp is looking to square things in a boxing ring.

Yassine Cheuko, Messi's bodyguard, challenged Paul to a fight in a video posted to social media on Wednesday, saying "there's no way out" and they need to make the bout "for the people."

The kerfuffle between Messi and Paul stems from the 2024 launch of Messi's energy drink because Paul claimed the packaging looked similar to his own Prime energy drink.

Prime Hydration went so far as to send a cease-and-desist letter to Mas+ in June 2024.

Per Goal.com, Mas+ actually made the first legal move by accusing Prime of forcing them to make changes to their brand.

Prime filed a countersuit in November, stating the resemblance in packaging has "caused confusion" among buyers. The countersuit also cited posts on social media and retailers who have mixed up the two beverages on store shelves.

Paul posted a TikTok in February in which he jokingly said he would drop the lawsuit if Messi were to step in the boxing ring with him. It's unclear how that would resolve things, but why not use a lawsuit involving one of the most famous athletes in the world as yet another marketing opportunity?

The WWE superstar later admitted he was joking in challenging Messi, but that's apparently not stopping Cheuko from trying to get in the ring.

Cheuko has trained in mixed martial arts and there has been speculation he was a Navy SEAL, though that has been disputed and specific details about his background are unclear. He was hired by Inter Miami to serve as Messi's personal bodyguard when the soccer legend made the move to MLS in 2023.

Paul hasn't had a boxing match of any kind since October 2023 when he defeated Dillon Danis. He has been working in WWE since 2021, having held the United States title from November 2023 through August 2024 before losing to LA Knight at SummerSlam.
