Caris LeVert, Pistons Reportedly Agree to $29M Contract, Updated Salary Cap for NBA FA
The Detroit Pistons reportedly improved their backcourt depth Monday when they agreed to a two-year, $29 million deal with guard Caris LeVert, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
The Pistons had the non-taxpayer mid-level exception available, which was important because they did not have much functional cap space.
Last season, LeVert posted 12.1 points on 46.7 percent shooting (37.3 percent from three), 3.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks, who acquired him and Georges Niang from the Cavs for De'Andre Hunter before the trade deadline.
The 30-year-old LeVert has played nine seasons for the Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers, Cavaliers and Hawks.
The Pacers initially selected him with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft out of Michigan before trading him to the Nets in a deal that brought Thaddeus Young to Indiana.
For his career, LeVert has averaged 13.9 points on 43.7 percent shooting (34.5 percent from three), 4.0 assists and 3.8 rebounds.
LeVert has been a steady and versatile veteran during his near decade in the league, and now he'll take his talents to Detroit, which should benefit from his presence as it looks to make another playoff run in the Eastern Conference.
