NFL, Under Armour Agree to Long-Term Contract as Official Shoe, Glove Partner
The NFL and Under Armour reached a long-term agreement, making the apparel company an official shoe and glove partner for the league.
"At Under Armour, we're passionate about nurturing talent and transforming the way athletes perform. We know what it takes to succeed on the field," said Sean Eggert, the company's senior vice president of global sports marketing. "With a shared dedication to investing in the game, from the pros to grassroots, we’re thrilled to continue shaping the future of the sport alongside the NFL."
Under Armour and the NFL severed their business ties ahead of the 2021 season. As a result, any players endorsed by Under Armour couldn't display the company's logo on the field during games from that point forward.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is the biggest star aligned with the brand.
"From before I even set foot on an NFL field, Under Armour has been like a second skin for me," he said as part of Tuesday's announcement. "The Under Armour football family has been ingrained in my brain since I was a kid. The 'Click-Clack' commercials, the best players in the sport, the whole vibe about it—to me, there's nothing else that compares."
Nike remains the exclusive provider for NFL on-field apparel, the two sides having recently extended their collaboration through 2038. Adidas also has its own footwear and glove partnership.
Still, this is a notable step for Under Armour given how much it has lessened its investment in deals of this nature. Sportico's Kurt Badenhausen noted the company's most recent SEC filing showed a total of $432 million in sponsorship agreements, down from a peak of $1.36 billion in 2017.
