Derik Queen Buzzer-Beater Thrills Fans as Maryland Survives Colorado State Upset Bid

The Crab Five is moving on after avoiding an upset in the Round of 32.

No. 4 Maryland downed No. 12 Colorado State 72-71 on a buzzer-beater from freshman Derik Queen on Sunday to punch a ticket to the Sweet 16. Queen's clutch bank shot came just seconds after Jalen Lake gave the Rams a lead on a three-pointer on the other end.

Queen led the way for Maryland with 17 points as all five Terrapin starters posted double-digits. Jordan Geronimo added 10 points off the bench.

Colorado State controlled much of the game and led to start the second half, but the Terps rallied to took the lead heading into the final stretch. From there, the Rams managed to fight back and take the lead in the final seconds.

Colorado State left too much time for Maryland, however, and Queen became a Terps legend as time expired.

There have been few moments of madness in this year's tournament, but we got one on Sunday and fans were thrilled.

With the win, Maryland advanced to it first Sweet 16 since 2015 and will now have a matchup against top-seeded Florida. The Gators came into the tournament as one of the favorites to win a title, but the momentum is on the Terps side after Sunday's thriller.
