Ex-WWE Star Gable Steveson Upset by Wyatt Hendrickson in NCAA Wrestling Championship
Former Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson returned to Minnesota in hopes of ending his collegiate career with a third national championship, but he came up short.
Oklahoma State's Wyatt Hendrickson scored a stunning upset win over Steveson in the heavyweight final at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships, using a late takedown to earn a dramatic 5-4 victory:
Per ESPN, Steveson had been riding a 70-match win streak. He initially retired in 2022 and pursued a career in WWE, mostly appearing on the company's developmental brand NXT before being released in May 2024.
Following his release, Steveson tried to transition to football and tried out for the Buffalo Bills. It was his first time ever playing organized football, and he was released after Buffalo's final preseason game in August.
For Hendrickson, the win avenges his previous loss to Steveson by technical fall in the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships, the only other time the two have met on the wrestling mat.
