McNeese State Manager Amir 'Aura' Khan Expected to Follow Will Wade to NC State
McNeese State student manager Amir Khan could follow men's basketball head coach Will Wade as he makes his expected move to NC State, according to CBS Sports' Matt Norlander.
"Amir Khan, the student manager who has gotten massively famous over the course of the past few days, I spoke to him afterward," Norlander said Saturday. "It sounds like he's going to follow Will Wade to NC State and be a graduate assistant with additional roles and responsibilities to be determined."
The Cowboys advanced to the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, although they were eliminated with a 76-62 loss to Purdue.
ESPN's Jeff Borzello reported Wednesday that Wade reached an agreement to become NC State's next head coach.
As for Khan, he's expected to graduate from McNeese State at the end of the upcoming fall semester with a degree in sports management. He's open to sticking with Wade, but he hasn't completely committed to it just yet.
"I haven't fully thought about it, processed it," Khan told Norlander. "I think over the next few days, I'm definitely going to think about my future, but I definitely want to be a grad assistant for a college basketball team when I graduate."
His popularity has grown throughout the year due to his entrances with the team prior to games, leading them onto the floor with a boombox around his shoulder.
Khan became the first student manager to secure an endorsement deal and has amassed 12 NIL contracts totaling "well into the six figures," per Norlander. Companies include Buffalo Wild Wings, TickPick, Insomnia Cookies, Topps and TurboTax.
Wade is the reason that Khan became part of McNeese State's basketball program in the first place, as the student manager was a fan of the coach during his prior tenure at LSU.
"I wanted to work for him in any way that I can," Khan said, per ESPN's J.J. Post. "One of my friends sent me a X post that they had, saying they needed student managers. He was like 'We should do this; it would be really fun.' That's when I decided to do it."
As Wade reportedly prepares to join the Wolfpack after helping lead McNeese State to their first March Madness win, Khan could follow him.
