NFL News: 49ers Reportedly Will Release Kyle Juszczyk; Pro Bowl FB Becomes Free Agent
The San Francisco 49ers are moving on from their veteran fullback after eight years with the team.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers plan to release nine-time Pro Bowler Kyle Juszczyk, who has been with San Francisco since 2017. According to Schefter, Juszczyk wants to continue playing.
Juszczyk, who began his career with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013 but joined the Niners in free agency in 2017, is likely nearing the end of his career but still has plenty left in the tank. He's been a Pro Bowler every year since 2016 and earned Second-team All-Pro honors in 2024.

Juszczyk, 33, had 26 rushing yards and a touchdown along with 200 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air last year, though much of what the fullback does on the field doesn't show up on the stat sheet.
Juszczyk became the NFL's highest-paid fullback in 2021 when he inked a five-year, $27 million contract extension with an average annual value of $5.4 million with the 49ers.
He and the 49ersย agreed to a restructured dealย ahead of the 2024 season that saved the team $1.75 million against the salary cap. Before being released, Juszczyk was set to earn a base salary of $4.1 million in 2025 and would have counted for $6.5 million against the cap.
Though Juszczyk is on the older side, it shouldn't be long before he gets picked up in free agency after a fantastic run in San Francisco.
