Kyle Juszczyk Restructures 49ers Contract, Saves Team $1.75M in Salary Cap Space

The San Francisco 49ers and All-Pro fullback Kyle Juszczyk agreed to a restructured contract Wednesday that will save the team $1.75 million against the salary cap in 2024, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

JL Sports, the agency that represents Juszczyk, posted about the move on X, noting that it ensures Juszczyk will be back with the team in 2024:

Juszczyk signed a five-year, $27 million contract extension with the 49ers in 2021, giving his deal an average annual value of $5.4 million. Per Pro Football Talk, Juszczyk will continue to be the NFL's highest-paid fullback even after the restructure.

The 32-year-old Juszczyk's reported agreement to restructure figures to help ensure that the Niners are cap compliant by the start of the new league year Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

After starring collegiately at Harvard, the Baltimore Ravens selected Juszczyk in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft. He spent four years in Baltimore and earned his first Pro Bowl nod in his final season with the Ravens in 2016 before signing with the 49ers.

Juszczyk has now reached the Pro Bowl in eight consecutive years, and he was named a First Team All-Pro for the first time last season.

Many of Juszczyk's contributions don't show up in the boxscore, but he has produced some solid numbers as a pass-catcher over the years, making 262 grabs for 2,464 yards and 16 touchdowns in 172 regular-season games.

He has also rushed for 211 yards and five scores on 62 carries during his 11-year NFL career.

With Juszczyk playing a pivotal role on offense, oftentimes as a blocker, the 49ers have reached the playoffs in four of the past five seasons, reaching the NFC Championship Game four times during that stretch and the Super Bowl twice.

Last season, Juszczyk played in all 17 regular-season games and recorded 14 receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns. In three playoff games, he had four catches for 64 yards with all of them going for first downs.

That included two catches for 31 yards in Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 49ers led most of that game, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense mounted a comeback to force overtime before winning the game 25-22.

While it was a disappointing end to the season for Juszczyk and the Niners, the team is returning many of its key players on both sides of the ball for the 2024 campaign.

That means San Francisco should be a contender to win its first Super Bowl since the 1994 season, and for Juszczyk to win the first Super Bowl of his career.
