WWE and 2K Games continue to look for ways to strengthen and evolve professional wrestling gaming and that is no different with their latest release, WWE 2K25, available now to purchasers of the Deadman or Bloodline special editions.
This year's release promises a hearty roster and the first opportunity to take the game out of the ring and into a brand new universe known as The Island, as well as several other new and returning features.
What are they and what do top Superstars have to say about the latest, potentially greatest, entry in the storied franchise?
Gameplay Upgrades
Fans of technical wrestling will be thrilled to find that the return of chain wrestling.
It allows fans to determine the most sound professional wrestler through trading of holds and a few mini games that will determine who controls the hold and does the most damage.
It helps reintroduce the realism of a WWE match to the game and emphasizes the importance of selecting a Superstar who is more than just a brawler or heavyweight, but who can trade holds and win those exchanges by being a complete, technically sound wrestler.
While it won't be available in non-standard match types, it can be customized in gameplay settings, per the WWE 2K25 website, and was among the most requested returns.
Those who like to take to the air for their finishers can do so, thanks to the return of finishers from the top of ladders. A staple of older games, it returns in 2025, giving those Superstars with aerial-based finishers the opportunity to inflict maximum damage from the top of a ladder in both standard and Money in the Bank matches.
Not only is intergender wrestling back in WWE 2K25, giving fans the opportunity to shut Dominik Mysterio up once and for all with a beat down courtesy of Rhea Ripley, but fans can create their own customized intergender championships.
Players tired of keeping it to men vs. men and women vs. women can use their favorite women's division stars, current and legendary, to lay the smackdown on their least favorite men's division competitors.
Relive the Attitude Era, where Chyna made history as the first Intercontinental Champion. Replay the Royal Rumble and use Nia Jax to eliminate the competition and make history.
The gameplay upgrades were all created to enhance the gamer experience and allow them to play as many different matches, with as many different styles and opportunities for highlight reel moments, as possible.
Roman Reigns Discusses WWE 2K25
The Tribal Chief may be the cover athlete in this year's game but he is not the lone highest rated member of the current roster.
Instead, the OTC shares that distinction with undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley, both of whom join him in rating at 96.
The Head of the Table in The Bloodline, but not in overall rating, was none too pleased.
NXT Superstar Cora Jade spoke about her appearance in the game and which of Reigns' former teammates was her favorite wrestler growing up and influenced her choice of finishers.
WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner was impressed with his representation in the game, even if he wasn't given a microphone to wax poetically on.
Finally, the family of the legendary, Hall of Famer "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff took to X to express their gratitude for his inclusion in the game, as part of the Saturday Night's Main Event DLC pack that will release in November.
WWE 2K25 is available now for those who purchased the Deadman and Bloodline Editions and will release wide for standard game users on March 14.
