DK Metcalf Trade Rumors: Chargers Linked as Potential Landing Spot for Seahawks WR

DK Metcalf may be on his way out of Seattle this offseason after the wide receiver requested a trade from the Seahawks on Wednesday.

While it's still early in the process, a handful of teams will likely put in an offer for the star. One such team reportedly could be the Los Angeles Chargers.

Per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, the Chargers "are a team several around the league are watching as a possible" trade destination for the 27-year-old Metcalf.

Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz added:

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Metcalf wants a new contract and prefers to be traded to a championship contender. He has one year remaining on his three-year, $72 million deal and is currently set to earn a base salary of $18 million in 2025.

Metcalf signed his extension in 2022. Since then, the wide receiver market has changed drastically, with the highest-paid receivers like Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb and others bringing in more than $30 million a year.

Metcalf might not warrant that kind of deal given his age, but he's still likely worth more than his current salary.

The sixth-year veteran had 992 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2024. He likely would have eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the third consecutive year had he not missed two games.

The Chargers went 11-6 in 2024 and lost to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round, but they appear to be on an upward trajectory.

Considering Los Angeles went 5-12 in 2023, the first year of the Jim Harbaugh era should be viewed as a success. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Bolts competing for a Super Bowl in the near future.

The Chargers have an outstanding young quarterback in Justin Herbert and one of the league's rising star receivers in Ladd McConkey. As a rookie, McConkey tallied 1,149 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

Pairing Metcalf alongside McConkey with Herbert under center could take the Chargers' offense to the next level, but Los Angeles will be competing with plenty of other teams for Metcalf, as he's one of the best available receivers this offseason.
