Davante Adams Trade Rumors: Jets Taking Calls on WR Amid Aaron Rodgers' Exit

Andrew PetersMar 2, 2025

Davante Adams' time with the New York Jets could come to an end before the start of the league year.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets are taking calls regarding deals for Adams and are open to trading him before the start of the league year on March 12. According to Rapoport, if New York can't find a trade partner for Adams, it is expected to release him.

Adams is under contract through the 2026 season but carries an expensive $38.34 million cap hit, which could be more than the Jets are willing to pay for him. ESPN's Rich Cimini reported in February that the only way for Adams to remain in New York would be to renegotiate his deal, but "he probably prefers to be released."

Cimini also noted that the Jets can clear $29.9 million if they part ways Adams.

Adams, 32, had his least productive season since 2019, but still finished the year with 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. If a team trades for him, they likely won't be looking to make him the future of their franchise, but he is more than capable of helping a team make a playoff run.

If he becomes a free agent, it's fair to assume Adams will try to reunite with Aaron Rodgers. The Jets parted ways with Rodgers last month after two seasons and the 41-year-old is now looking to find a team willing to take a chance on an aging star.

Rogers reportedly wanted to play for the Los Angeles Rams and have Adams join him, though his preferred destination might be different now that quarterback Matthew Stafford has a restructured deal to stay in Los Angeles.

While it may not be with the Rams, Rodgers will still likely want Adams to join whichever team he ends up on.

With Adams more than likely on his way out, wide receiver Garrett Wilson should become the focal point of the Jets offense. Wilson recorded his third consecutive 1,000-plus yard season in 2024 despite often being Rodgers' second option behind Adams.

Garrett voiced his frustrations about a lack of involvement in the offense in December, which led some to believe he could want out of New York. More involvement under new head coach Aaron Glenn in 2025 could lead to him committing to the franchise when the time comes.
